While big changes in my life (moving, ending work, starting school) are right ahead of me, I found myself pretty interested in interior design. I googled and browsed Pinterest for hours to find inspiration and cute ideas on how to create my very own, personal and stylish home. I have come across quite a few, really helpful tips on how to make a small space appear bigger. Here are ten of them.
1. Light walls
Use colors like white or pastels to create an open space.
As many as you want. Position them opposite of a window to create more depth.
Focus on only a couple main colors that are in the same color family. (You can add a couple small, bright features)
4. Avoid clutter
The more you have your space organized, the bigger and more open it will appear.
5. Smart Storage
Use closet storage or bed storage boxes.
Clear or reflective furniture such as a glass table or chair help make your room appear bigger.
7. Create your own gallery wall
Fellow Midwest Blogger Maya from Charmingly Styled tried it out and it looks AH-mazing! If your space is real tiny, use rather one or two big ones than five little ones.
8. Avoid ruffles or window treatments
Too much fabric in front of the window takes away daylight which will make your room appear darker and smaller than it is.
9. Get multifunctional furniture
Stacking books isn’t only super stylish but also saves a lot of room. If you have some extra money on hand, invest in a couch that you can use as a bed at night.
10. Moving furniture
Furniture on wheels can be pushed out of the way (trending right now: vintage bar carts) and couches with legs create the illusion of some extra open space.
